COMSEP Conversations about Leadership – January 2026
Please consider joining us for the ongoing series on leadership in medical education.
All COMSEP members are welcome.
COMSEP Conversations about Leadership are designed as informal sessions to:
- Create a diverse and inclusive community of shared experiences and growth
- Develop awareness of different leadership strategies, approaches and challenges
- Facilitate the application of leadership frameworks and theories to one’s own work.
Our next session will focus on cultivating Joy in ourselves and creating Joy in our workplaces. Joy as a leadership quality? So much in the World around us seemingly conspires to wipe out joy in our workplace. Living with joy can be liberative and leading with joy can disrupt the extractive nature of our capitalistic society, build community and provide sustenance and meaning to what we do. As we begin the New Year, let us learn from each other on some small steps on how we can all promote joy around us.
We are keeping to the promise of 15-30 minutes of prep time.
For the session, please
- Watch: Can work make you happy? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dNlow1wdRgM (3 minutes)
- Read: Leading with what lights you up (5 minutes)
- Watch: Joy in the workplace: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EkOKxXU31B0 (3 minutes)
- Watch: What matters to you: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e9Rv6qaDcks (2 minutes)
Additional resources for a deeper dive
- Read the IHI White Paper on IHI Framework for Improving Joy in Work (pages 1-9; for a deeper dive, read the rest!)
- Impediments to Joy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dXFF76l9W-U (3 minutes)
During this 1-hour session, we will discuss the topic’s relevance and importance – and how it links to our work, COMSEP’s priorities, while highlighting important principles such as diversity, inclusion, equity, and justice.
We then plan to work in small groups sharing experiences and responding to prompt questions.
We hope that educators and administrators consider joining us for this and future engaging sessions on leadership. Through your participation, we will learn from one another’s experience and expertise, and further advance COMSEP’s strategic priority of leadership development for all interested COMSEP members.
