2024 Cancellation Policy
To cancel your registration and receive a refund, a written request must be received in the COMSEP office by March 14, 2024. Cancellation requests received by this date will receive a refund less a $50.00 processing fee. Requests will be processed after the meeting. All requests received on or after March 14, 2024 will forfeit 100% of monies paid.

Both the New Orleans Marriott (Host hotel) and the New Orleans Sheraton (overflow hotel) are now sold out of the COMSEP discounted room blocks. There are many hotels very close by where you can contact them directly to book accommodations. Miller Sarkin Lectureship:
Balancing Teaching and Learning; Larrie Greenberg, MD
Larrie Greenberg, MD is Director, Creative Medical Education, Educational Consulting; Senior Consultant, Medical Education, George Washington University; Professor Emeritus, Pediatrics, George Washington University School of Medicine, Children’s National Medical Center. Dr. Greenberg founded the Office of Medical Education at Children's National Medical Center in 1978, started faculty development at Children's, has 300 publications (almost all in medical education), has developed numerous enduring educational programs at both GWU and Children's, and has held national offices in COMSEP (the pediatric clerkship group, of which he was one of the founders); the NEGEA, which is part of the Association of American Medical Schools; and the Academic Pediatric Association (APA). He has been awarded lifetime achievement awards from the U of Toledo, GWU, COMSEP, and region 4 of the APA, and has won awards from the APA three times for best educational research paper, best mentor in the country, and twice won the best educational program award. He has recently written a book directed to clinician educators,
A Prime for the Clinician Educator: Supporting Excellence and Promoting Change Through Storytelling.
Achievements:
- As clerkship director, have overseen the Pediatric education of over 3000 medical students and have mentored/advised many of them
- As a clinician/educator, have worked with, advised and advanced research, collaborating with over 2000 residents in Pediatrics
- Have published and advanced Pediatric and general medical education through innovations and research since 1974
- One of the first clinician/educators to be elected to regional, national offices, AAMC
- Started one of the first office rotations for pediatric residents in 1974
- Established a community training program for trainees at a GWU/ CNMC-affiliated hospital, 1974
- Started the first educational initiative on postpartum car seat use in Maryland, 1974
- Founded one of the first full-service medical education offices in Pediatrics, including CME
- Initiated a home health care program for students in Pediatrics
- Started faculty development, CNMC and the Master Teachers' program (first at Children’s and now GWU)
- Did the first RCT research on teaching residents how to teach in the late 70's
- Published on the use of SPs in the early 80s re: giving bad news
- One of the first to use stealth SPs as part of a CME study and an adolescence violence study
- Developed and implemented blended learning residents as teachers program, Children’s, 2014
- Established and implemented communication skills curriculum, Children’s, 2014
The Miller Sarkin lecture is named in honor of two COMSEP presidents, Dr. Steven Z. Miller and Dr. Richard T. Sarkin, who died in a plane crash in 2004. Two individuals who dedicated their lives to training the pediatricians of tomorrow, Dr. Miller and Dr. Sarkin were humanistic creative educators and revered by the entire COMSEP and pediatric community.
Continuing Education (CE)
To receive CE for the COMSEP Meeting, attendees needed to purchase at $50 when registering. Information about receiving CE certificate was emailed out post meeting.

The COMSEP annual meeting is a wonderful opportunity for educators and educational administrators to learn from each other through workshops, mentoring sessions, research presentations, collaborative meetings, as well as through networking and sharing ideas!
Participants leave a COMSEP meeting energized by interactions with creative, enthusiastic, and like-minded educators, and carry great ideas back to their home institutions.
