Treasurer
Hello COMSEPers! I am excited to be considered for treasurer. Through 15+ years in COMSEP, COMSEPers have supported me across practice settings and various education leadership roles.
As current UCSF Co-director of longitudinal Pediatric Student Career Advising, I am directly engaged in all phases of pediatric student education (including pre-clerkship, post-clerkship, URM engagement and outreach.) As past co-leader of the COMSEP Curriculum Committee and the Post-Clerkship Collaborative, and as current member of the Annual Planning Committee, I have gained wisdom from colleagues and inspiration to support students, and I have loved our community which lifts and inspires each COMSEP member.
Our current financial landscape requires a treasurer committed to upholding our sense of fun and to maintaining an unwavering commitment to student teaching, all while tackling challenges with resilience to ensure that the joy of learning and our dedication to students remains at the core of our mission. I am up for the challenge!
I love COMSEP… my greatest joys have come from collaboration with COMSEPers to create curricula, enact projects, and grow as an educator to improve the educational environment. As treasurer I would infuse the spirit of fun COMSEP is known for and would bring my enthusiasm, my creative mind, my collaborative problem-solving skills, my passion for supporting learners and understanding their unique needs and perspectives, my dedication to excellence, and my genuine commitment to seek to understand and represent the needs of all in our diverse community who call COMSEP their academic and professional “home.”
I became a member of COMSEP, when I served as the Pediatric Clerkship Director at the University of Queensland and Director of Faculty Development at Ochsner Health. Thanks to the invaluable guidance and support of my COMSEP colleagues, many of whom are now friends, I have recently embraced a new challenge as the section head of the Pediatric Emergency Department at Medical City Children's Hospital. In this role, leveraging my MEd and leadership experience, I aim to standardize care, enhance patient experiences, and elevate learner education while effectively managing a team.
This position not only provides an opportunity for professional growth but also offers a chance to improve my work-life balance and bring me closer to my family and personal passions within professional organizations. Without a doubt, my strongest connection lies with COMSEP—an organization for which I am eternally grateful. I am thrilled to actively promote and contribute to COMSEP, and I would be privileged to take on a leadership role as the Executive Committee Treasurer, driving its future excellence.
My prior experience provides a solid understanding of the healthcare and educational sectors, uniquely qualifying me for the role of Executive Committee Treasurer. I'm confident that my meticulous attention to detail and collaborative communication style will foster a transparent financial environment, ensuring prudent stewardship and contributing to COMSEP's overall success and growth. I would be honored to contribute to the leadership of COMSEP.
At-Large Executive Committee
I’m an Associate Professor and an Associate Clerkship Director at Morehouse School of Medicine (MSM). After working in GME and UME, I found a passion for student education and found my academic home in COMSEP.
I’m a Wellness Collaborative leader and have worked in other groups. With ideas from COMSEP, I’ve helped increase pediatric integration in preclinical years and done other initiatives. My leadership experience would translate into being an effective EC member. I’ve served as Physician Team Lead and as Chair for MSM’s student progress committee. I have excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
I applaud COMSEP for making diversity, equity, and inclusion a priority that is ingrained in organization efforts. In my work with the AAMC and Aquifer, I have seen that this is necessary, and I have helped diminish bias. I appreciate being able to incorporate DEI awareness in COMSEP work that I’ve done, and I would like to continue doing this at the executive level. COMSEP’s Strategic Plan and Guiding Principles align with my values, so I welcome the opportunity to serve in continuing COMSEP’s work and reach.
I am honored to be nominated for the Member-at-Large position on the COMSEP Executive Committee.
I am an Associate Professor of Pediatrics at McGovern Medical School at UT Health Houston. I am the Pediatric Clerkship Director and the Director of Pediatric Medical Student Education at my institution.
I also work clinically as an outpatient and well-baby nursery pediatrician. I have been part of COMSEP since 2014.
In 2015 I joined the Professional and Faculty Development Collaborative and was the co-leader from 2020-2023. I have helped to lead the “ABC of medical student education; fundamentals for new pediatric educators” and multiple other workshops throughout my years as a member of this organization. I have been an active member of the DEI Committee in COMSEP and am now one of the Co-Leaders of this committee.
Through COMSEP, I have gained experience and made connections in multiple areas that have fostered growth in my personal and professional career. I am enthusiastic about the opportunity to serve on the Executive Committee, leveraging my passion, expertise, and dedication to further the goals of the organization. I am committed to actively contributing to the advancement of pediatric medical education and fostering an inclusive, collaborative, and innovative environment within COMSEP.
I am honored to have been nominated for a position on the COMSEP Executive Committee. When I joined COMSEP in 2011, I had no idea what an impact being a member of this organization would have on my personal and professional journeys. I have been fortunate to collaborate with amazing COMSEP peers on workshops and educational projects. The wisdom of the COMSEP membership is vast and I am so thankful to learn from you all.
My collaborative home has been the Core Clerkship Collaborative where I have been co-leader for the past three years. It has been a privilege to work on projects like PedScripts and COMSEP Curriculum Mapping to provide educational resources that students and educators at all our institutions can utilize. What I value most about COMSEP has been the comradery, sharing conversations and ideas with others in similar educational roles. I have made friends that I look forward to spending time with each year, over dinners, the Fun Run and dancing.
For all the above, I am thankful to COMSEP and view serving on the Executive Committee as my opportunity to support the mission of this great organization and to champion projects from our collaboratives. I appreciate the opportunity to be considered and will see you all on the dance floor!
Hello! I am excited for the opportunity to run for a position on the COMSEP Executive Committee. I am a hospitalist at Vanderbilt and have helped direct our pediatric clerkship since 2017. That year, I became a member of COMSEP and found a place where people were supportive, innovative, knowledgeable, and passionate about cultivating medical education in pediatrics. Now, I have COMSEP to thank for much of my growth as an educator, and my sense of belonging in a professional home. I believe this is what strong organizations do: lift up and better each of their members and community as a whole, through sharing knowledge, diversity of experience, and curiosity with one another in a space that is inclusive and welcoming.
I hope to contribute to some of that lifting up as a member of the executive committee. I have been active within COMSEP, serving within the Nomination and Awards Committee, the Wellness and Career Advising Collaboratives, and the DEI Resource and Advisory committee. I hope that these experiences have provided me with a deeper understanding of our organization’s goals and its members’ needs and have shown my commitment to our work.
I really enjoy working in teams. I think we are all better with someone else beside us. If chosen for this role, I aim to bring enthusiasm, a learning and collaborative spirit, a deep investment in our shared aims, and a kind heart to our work together. Thank you so much for your consideration.
Nominations and Awards Committee
With great respect and appreciation for the COMSEP community, I am running for the Nominations & Awards member-at-large position. Locally, I’m a pediatric hospitalist, associate clerkship director and director of the first-year curriculum at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. For the past 8 years, COMSEP has been an academic home, and I’ve had the honor of serving as leader of the Research & Scholarship Collaborative and currently, co-lead for the Annual Planning Committee. Through these experiences, I’ve collaborated with Degnon, COMSEP leadership, and members to recruit faculty and speakers, organize the review of abstracts, facilitate a community of education scholarship, and designate awards and recognition for outstanding work in research and scholarship. Within the Research and Scholarship Collaborative, we’ve made progress to advance health equity through the addition of a health equity criterion within the abstract submission and poster review processes, bringing an authentic health equity lens to research and scholarship. Through critical review, innovation, and a dedication to equitable and inclusive processes, I hope to ensure DEI is at the forefront of our nominations and awards processes. I’d be honored to continue serving the COMSEP community as a member-at-large for the Nominations & Awards committee, providing much deserved recognition to our exceptional educators.
I am thrilled and deeply honored to be considered for the Nominations and Awards Committee. As a pediatric hospitalist and Associate Professor at UTHealth McGovern Medical School in Houston, my journey with COMSEP has been transformative. Since joining in 2018 as the Inpatient Site Director for the clerkship at UT Houston, COMSEP has been my medical education home. My first conference in Denver, CO, was a catalyst for my engagement, inspiring me to advocate for personal and professional goals. Progressing to Associate Clerkship Director and the Career Focus Track Director for the fourth-year curriculum, I owe much of my success to the supportive COMSEP community. Active participation in the Assessment and Evaluation Collaborative, where I served as a Co-Leader, has been instrumental in my scholarly pursuits. Under their mentorship, I secured my first grant, leading to presentations at various conferences, including COMSEP. I have also participated in various projects and workshops that stemmed from this collaborative and have since branched out to serve as Co-Leader for the ABCs of Medical Student Education Pre-Conference Workshop. As a member of the Nominations and Awards Committee, I will make a conscious effort to uphold the values and mission of this diverse organization and provide a voice to ensure that members and trainees alike are represented in the dissemination of their work and feel supported. I aspire to pay forward the guidance I received by encouraging individuals to showcase their scholarly work and celebrate achievements in pediatric medical education. Thank you for your consideration!
