“I Am an Education Scholar” Establishing our Individual and Collective Identities as Scholars in Medical Education

At the end of this session, participants will be able to:

• Articulate what it means to be a teacher, an educator, and/or an education scholar
• Outline criteria for a scholarship/scholarly approach, specifically within medical education
• Evaluate their personal medical education activities through a scholarly lens
• Identify and/or create resources to cultivate their identity as an educator and education scholar
• Prepare to create an individualized action plan for professing the value and impact of being an education scholar locally and nationally

This handout contains reflection questions that we will reference during the presentation. We are not asking anyone to draft responses to these questions in advance, but we do think that they may (1) give people even better sense of the session’s focus and (2) minimize frustration that people might otherwise feel if not given the same time to work on these questions that they might get during a longer workshop.
