Part 1: Harnessing the Power of Formative Assessment with Calibrate

Formative assessment, when thoughtfully implemented, empowers students to become self-directed learners. In this session, we will explore Aquifer's new Calibrate assessment system, which embodies the principles of formative assessment. Attendees will learn about the principles of formative assessment and what pitfalls can undermine its effectiveness.  Attendees will also learn how Calibrate delivers insights for students and provides cohort-level data to inform curricular improvements. We will round out the session by sharing best practices for using Calibrate's timely feedback and self-reflection tools to catalyze student learning.

Part 2: Accelerating Learning with Coaching

While formative assessment generates crucial insights, translating these insights into meaningful growth is accelerated with effective coaching. In this session, we will describe the core characteristics of coaching that improve learning, introduce Aquifer’s Anyone Can Coach! model that simplifies these competencies, and introduce attendees to a script that makes coaching with formative assessment data nearly turnkey.  Participants will learn actionable strategies for coaching students toward self-directed learning and achieving learning objectives.

Part 3: Leveraging New Technologies to Enhance Teaching and Learning

New technologies present an opportunity to augment and improve our teaching and learning practices. This session will explore how Aquifer develops AI tools to support teaching and learning. We will demonstrate our new automated learning objective mapping service, which uses machine learning to analyze curriculum and map objectives to relevant Aquifer content. This provides targeted recommendations to improve course design and student learning. Attendees at this session will be invited to have their learning objectives mapped to generate the best matches to Aquifer’s content.  We will also preview other emerging AI applications, such as providing personalized feedback, to glimpse the future of AI on Aquifer’s platform.
