COMSEP is soliciting research and innovation abstracts for its 2018 annual meeting. The platform and poster presentations provide COMSEP members the opportunity to share original research and innovative programs and offer opportunities for feedback, collaboration and further scholarly work. We will consider research and innovations submissions with relevance to medical students in pediatrics.

Research abstracts

Research questions seek to advance the knowledge, skills and attitudes of trainees by understanding and evaluating the educational system. Research furthers our understanding of education, such as how students learn, characteristics of ideal educators, defining professionalism, etc….

Research abstracts should be formatted with:

  • Title
  • Background
  • Objectives
  • Methods
  • Results
  • Discussion
  • References


Innovations such as new teaching methods, new curricula, new strategies or assessment tools may be submitted as long as the approach is scholarly, describing educational outcomes and appropriate reflection.

Innovations abstracts should be formatted with:

  • Title
  • Need for innovation/background
  • Objectives/Purpose
  • Instructional methods/materials used
  • Educational outcomes
  • Discussion: Innovation's strengths and areas for improvement, feasibility of maintaining program, ability to transfer to other institutions.
  • References

Abstracts are limited to 350 words (excluding references). OPTIONAL- You may upload a PDF of a graphic or chart - the finished size of the graphic MAY NOT EXCEED 3.25 inches (8 cm) in width. and 3.25 inches(8cm) in height. Projects that are in progress should be clear that data/results will be analyzed before the annual meeting. A description of the methods for analysis should be included.

The online submission tool will open September 12, 2017. The deadline for receipt of the abstracts is October 24, 2017. You should receive a decision by the first week of January 2018.

All submissions will be evaluated by a team of reviewers using standard scoring rubrics for research and innovation abstracts. The selection committee will directly notify the primary author by e-mail whether your submission has been accepted or declined for oral presentation or poster presentation. Feedback will be provided to the primary author of all submissions, regardless of whether the abstract is accepted.
