COME TO CAMP! COMSEP ADMINISTRATORS' MENTOR PROGRAM: LEARN TO REACH THE PEAK, LEADING BY MENTORING
Marlo M. Meyer,University of Virginia,Charlottesville,VA
Rationale: This year COMEPs CAMP is looking to reach beyond the annual conference, to bring mentor support to Pediatric Clerkship Administrators throughout the year. Mentoring is a proven method of promoting personal & professional development and growth. Clerkship administrators who are provided mentor support feel supported in their positions, which will provide a strong leadership role for their students.
Objectives: The CAMP workshop will provide mentoring best practices via a brief lecture, and then tips on how to become an effective mentor. Participants who attend CAMP will be entered into an active database that will be drawn upon when new pediatric clerkship coordinators join COMSEP and seek a mentor, or when existing members seek mentorship. Through the completion of CAMP, new mentors will create a yearlong web of support across the continuum.
Methods and Content: The CAMP workshop will be part lecture based, and part role play to provide mentoring best practices such as: Understanding the key components of mentoring, How to avoid pitfalls that may derail mentoring relationships, and How to enhance and apply personal mentoring. Participants will walk away with a tool kit of information to help maintain their mentorship role.
