As the competitiveness of the pediatric residency match intensifies, there is an increasing need for career advisors to be highly familiar match data and risk factors for failing to match. We utilized a webinar to widely disseminate career advising information to a broad range of pediatric advisors.
The webinar was viewed by 85 participants; most (98%) viewed the webinar live. Of the 85 participants, 49 (57%) completed the survey. There was a broad range of participants including clerkships directors, student affairs officials, and medical school advisors. 97% of respondents agreed that the webinar improved their understanding of the 2016 NRMP match data and 93% felt the webinar improved their ability to identify students at risk for not matching. In addition, 97% of respondents agreed they will use the information presented to advise students in the 2017 NRMP match.Discussion:
The pediatric match has become more competitive and advisors want to effectively counsel students who may be at risk for not matching. We utilized a webinar to deliver information to a large number pediatric career advisors who found the format to be effective in providing specific data about the NRMP match and match risk factors.
