Listservs for Medical Educators
The COMSEP List Serv.

The COMSEP listserv is a moderated e-mail list that sends out messages to all of the pediatrics clerkship directors (delegates to COMSEP), alternative delegates, and associate members. The list is moderated to ensure that there is no spam or commercial product advertised, other than that developed by our own members. To send a message to the COMSEP listserv, simply address the message to rcf-list@comsep.org. The messages are usually moderated within 12-24 hours and posted. Messages are also archived.

Announcements

Please join us for the 2009 Annual COMSEP meeting in Baltimore, MD., co-hosted by the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and the University of Maryland School of Medicine. The meeting theme will be Education Across the Continuum and will include a combined meeting day with the Association of Pediatric Program Directors (APPD). The 2009 Steven Miller / Richard Sarkin Keynote Lecture will be given by Dr. Kenneth Roberts. Highlights of the meeting will include pre-conference sessions for new clerkship directors, educational research presentations, as well as combined workshops, task force meetings, and poster presentations with our APPD colleagues. The meeting will take place at the Marriott Waterfront Hotel in Baltimore's Inner Harbor, in the newly developed Harbor East area. The combined meeting day with APPD will take place at the Baltimore Convention Center. The deadline for abstract and workshop submissions has passed. Meeting registration materials and instructions will be posted on the Annual Meeting tab on the webpage early in the Fall and will be sent via the listserv as well.

Please consider applying for the 2009 Proposals to Advance Scholarship! We have delayed the deadline for application this year, as our joint meeting with APPD is later than our usual meeting time. Deadline for submissions is midnight, Friday, February 13, 2009. This is an excellent opportunity for members of COMSEP to design and implement educational research, thereby promoting and supporting innovative scholarship of your own, in our organization, and in our medical schools. Any questions, feel free to call or email me, my information is in the directory in the library pages. For more information click here. Janet Fischel

The 2008 annual meeting was hosted by Morehouse School of Medicine, with co-hosting by Emory University School of Medicine and assistance from the Medical College of Georgia and Mercer University School of Medicine. The theme was Medical Students and Community: Using Medical Education to Address Health Disparities.

A new initiative of COMSEP is to enhance the support and development of our staff Clerkship Coordinators. Dottye Currin, MPH, Clerkship Coordinator at Wake Forest will be providing important resources at a later date. If you have suggestions or resources that you think would be valuable, please send them to Ms. Currin at dcurrin@wfubmc.edu.

COMSEP is saddened by the loss of two of our leaders:
