The Curriculum Task Force meets to maintain and update the Pediatric
Core Curriculum. The Curriculum Task Force envisions the curriculum
as a "living document" that will require ongoing modification
to ensure that it reflects the present state of pediatric knowledge
and educational theory. The APA/COMSEP General Pediatric Clerkship
Curriculum, along with a Resource Manual for clerkship directors,
was first published in 1995, with funding from the Bureau of Health
Professions. The first revision of the curriculum and the accompanying
problem set was completed in March 2002. The curriculum was most
recently revised in 2005. The current document is a competency-based
curriculum which sets standards for core competencies to be achieved
during the pediatric clerkship experience. It also outlines
an approach to meet the ED - 2 standard of the Liaison Committee
on Medical Education. The Curriculum Task Force is currently developing
a curriculum for the pediatric sub-internship in collaboration with
the APPD (Association of Pediatric Program Directors). Any COMSEP
member who has an interest in curriculum development may attend
the task force sessions at the annual meeting and assist in this
important project. The current co-chairs of the task force are Lyuba
Konopasek and Sandy
Sanguino.
